Parametric Modeling

Parametric modeling is to design and model elements in real world geometry  with computer, which is based on series of mathematical equations and variables. This type of modeling allow us to do a lot more complicated geometric design in architecture in place of the primarily specific shapes in design. That is to say, parametric modeling brings up more opportunity on developing more complex design and provides a new intellectual environment for architects.

Parametric modeling can be said to be a very different tool from what came before. It captures the images appear in designers’ mind and make the imaginary images to become a physical model or idea that can actually be presented to people. Some says that parametric modeling is mainly for making free-form “blob” architecture. In my opinion, parametric modeling not only makes free-form “blob” architecture, but it also can be used to make other complex geometrical shapes in architecture and even in a faster pace.

Nowadays, I believe parametric modeling has been widely put into practiced by firms and schools.By looking through the history of parametric, I realized how this tool has been developed and widely introduced and promoted. And thus, now parametric modeling has become the most contemporary tool in architectural design.

I have never used parametric modeling before, but I’m looking forward to make this tool become my strength to generate further complex designs, since parametric modeling makes impossible ideas possible for presenting to the world and enables quicker modeling. Also, I believe parametric modeling is now on the leading edge of digital design in architecture and it should be really important to adopt this tool well.

I would say that parametric modeling must adds a lot benefits to my design studios. since it shorten the time of modeling and allows easier modification in my designs when compared to using other tools. Hope to manage this skill soon!
